Cutting Room Operative

21/28 Cutting Room Operative (Evening Shift 2.15pm to 10.30pm)

This is an opportunity to be part of a skilled team responsible for the servicing of the Sewing Floor with the correct cut parts to the required standard on time. Cutting is the first operation of garment manufacturing and lays the foundation of the quality of the garment to be made. Attention to detail is critical as imperfections will have a massive impact on the required quality standards.

Key Tasks/Main Activities:

  1. Manual and Auto Spreading of Fabric
  • Understand Cutting Plan
  • Select markers according to the plan by required fabric types
  • Arrange marker on the Spreading Table working with agreed end wastage
  • Select fabric rolls according to Cutting Sheet/ instructions
  • Check each roll or sheet is the same as the approved swatch in the Technical Specification Pack.
  • Load auto spreader manually using the gantry crane
  • Look out for fabric defects whilst spreading
  • Update documentation as per the SOP to ensure product traceability
  • Ensure fabric is laid properly and consistently across the lay, with even ends
  • Count ply depth on both ends of the lay
  • Lay up marker correctly on the lay ready for cutting
  • For fabric in sheet form follow the above as appropriate.
  1. Manual and auto cutting of fabric
  • Understand the operation of Bulmer/ Gerber Autocutters
  • Understand the operation of a Servo Assisted Table Knife
  1. Manual Chain Spreading and Cutting
  1. General
  • Assist with maintaining plotters
  • Assist with moving cut work as and when required
  • Assist with lifting fabric rolls as and when required
The Candidate

Minimum of 12 months machine operation experience in a manufacturing environment

5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics, Grade C or above

Meticulous/pays attention to detail

Excellent communication skills

Excellent planning/organising skills

Can work on own initiative

Can build relationships easily

Minimum of 12 months experience of cutting materials in a manufacturing environment

2 years experience in using a variety of cutting machines
